How to get Hygge at Home

Black dog in white bed.

This pup knows the meaning of hygge!

Pronounced “hoo-guh,” hygge is the Danish word for being cozy and comfortable. So who’s ready for some self-soothing (perhaps while self-quarantining) at home?  If you follow my tips for bringing joy, warmth, and coziness to your space, Coronavirus or none, you’ll never want to leave the comfort of your own home.

Candles! Candles bring warmth, soothing amber light, and often incredible scents into the home. Some of my absolute favorites are Diptyque Baies (for their classic aesthetic), Tom Ford F*cking Fabulous (love everything he does), Voluspa (love the look and the smell -- I even have one in my office) and just for fun (and when you need a whiff of home) Homesick.

Greenery. Foliage helps you breathe better, cleanses the air, and enhances your mood. To find the best houseplant for you, read this article on my blog.

Loungewear. Nothing beats your favorite pair of sweatpants--except for cashmere sweatpants! Guys, try this pair by NakedCashmere. Ladies, what about these cozy cashmere ballet slippers or this supper cute pima cotton jumper by Lunya? What about this floor-length organic cotton cardi, perfect for lounging with your favorite Netflix show!

Comfort Food. Hanging at home just isn’t fun without a your favorite binge-worthy show and some homemade baked goods. Here are my favorite sites for healthy home-baked inspiration: The Loopy Whisk, Eating Bird Food, and Laura Lea. I’m no chef, but these ladies’ recipes are healthy (often gluten-free) and easy enough for me to make with ingredients I already have at home.

Stay healthy, stay well, and follow my blog for more tips on how to create an interior you love (and might not ever want to leave).
